The Estate

High in the eastern hills of Napa Valley, Somerston Estate is a place defined by scale, elevation, and remarkable diversity. Spanning 1,682 acres, with vineyards rising from 850 to 1,615 feet, the Estate unfolds across rugged hillsides, distinct exposures, and varied soils, creating an extraordinary range of growing conditions.

Here, no two vintages follow quite the same course. Farming begins with careful observation and an intimate understanding of the land. Each vineyard block is cultivated according to its individual character, with attention to elevation, exposure, soil, and seasonal conditions. The mountain landscape naturally asks more of the vines. At the same time, warm days and cooler nights encourage gradual ripening, allowing the fruit to develop concentration and complexity while preserving freshness and balance.

That same philosophy guides our winemaking. Each vintage begins not with a predetermined formula, but with a search for the Estate’s most compelling expression. We start with the finest vineyard blocks, focus on the premier sections within them, and ultimately select only the exceptional barrels that reveal the year’s character and promise.

From the vastness of Somerston Estate, only two wines emerge: one red and one white. Each is a proprietary composition shaped by the vintage and guided by our winemaker’s artistry and experience.

The astrolabe that marks every bottle is a symbol of this philosophy. Once used to navigate by observing the world above, it represents our own approach to winemaking: thoughtful observation, deliberate direction, and the understanding that the path may change from one vintage to the next.

Each vintage charts its own course because our purpose is not to force the destination but to recognize the finest expression of the Estate and guide it into the bottle.

The future of Somerston depends on how we honor what’s already here — the soil, the silence, and the life between the vines.
