2014 Sauvignon Blanc
Appellation/Vineyards
Somerston wines are produced from select blocks at our 1,615-acre estate, high in the eastern hills of Napa Valley. This estate bottled wine is sourced from Block 71 with an elevation of 850 asl.
Harvest
2014 had low rainfall consistent with previous drought years in the Napa Valley; however, the timing was in our favor. The low amount of moisture resulted in smaller berry sizes with more concentrated flavors. In late February to early March, showers came down, giving the vines a much-needed drink of water.
Winemaking
The small yellow clusters were hand-picked in the early morning, then whole-cluster pressed and fermented in 40% new French oak and 60% neutral French oak. The wine was barrel aged sur lie for six months with two stirrings per month, and bottled in December 2015.
Tasting Notes
This vintage displays all the characteristics that we expect from this excellent vineyard site. The mineral nose shows bright tropical notes of mango, grapefruit, and citrus. On the palate, delicious fruit flavors of poached pear, vanilla and grilled citrus fruit are highlighted by light oak and a persistent finish.
